SEO Block – Tips To Help You When You Are Looking For Fresh Link Building Ideas

| September 25, 2011 | 5 Comments More

You must have heard about the writer’s block or designer’s block. Truth is that such blocks are not just limited to writers or designers, in reality the mental block can occur to anybody who needs to be a little creative, and SEO professionals are no exception. After all Search Engine Optimization and more importantly link building is pretty much a creative job, and at times, you feel utterly short of ideas when looking for legitimate and novel ways of building links.

SEO Block

Every time you get a new project at hand, the first thing that comes to your mind is … a blockage of ideas. That’s precisely why many doesn’t even bother going beyond the obvious stuff like article marketing or blog commenting. Sorry to break it to you but I wouldn’t be giving you fresh ideas for link building, that’s your job and a little “out of the box” thinking will unearth many workable ideas. When you look around, the majority of links scattered on Internet are not a result of directory submission, or Article Marketing, or not even paid. All you need to do is to think, and following points will help you free your mind and think clearly.

Curb the worrywart in mind:

If you’ve ever been to a business meeting meant for brainstorming ideas, you must have come across some seniors who have this uncanny ability to strike down an idea by pointing to some loopholes or infeasibility in next to no time. As a result many ideas are discarded even before they can take a shape. Now, almost all of us have a similar naysayer in mind and while it serves a very important purpose, allowing it to have a go at the ideas as soon as they pop up in your mind means no idea will be able to shape up. So, it’s very important to ask the naysayer in your mind to take a break, and wait for sometime before it can start scrutinizing the ideas.

When trying to think of all possible ways to get the linkbacks for your website, don’t indulge yourself in weighing the pros and cons of the ideas. Just keep noting down all the ideas, no matter how absurd they sound, that’ll encourage the creative side of your mind. On the other hand, if you let the scrutinizer go berserk, it will lead to a complete block-out of new, innovative ideas.

Don’t Search for Link Building methods on Google:

The first resort for the majority of SEO professionals looking for new ways for building links is to search on Google. What they actually get are the compilations of age old techniques featuring nothing but the obvious methods. The biggest downside of searching and going through such results is that you will end up having the impression that Directory Submission or Article Marketing is all you can do for link building. Remember, Google is no substitute for human intelligence, and if you find yourself going straight to Google when the need for fresh idea arises, you can consider yourself anything but an SEO professional. Looking for easy alternatives will never let your mind get into a thinking mode. You don’t want rust on your creative thinking, or your career as an SEO professional will never flourish.

Look out for inspiration at quality forums or Blogs:

Ironically, the very next tip after I’ve advised you to stay away for easy alternatives is … to lookout for inspiration by visiting quality forums and Blogs. At these forums, we have got some of the most creative minds in the industry sharing their thoughts, and even though you wouldn’t be getting any concrete ideas, the words of wisdom will often spark off an idea into your mind. A word of caution though, when I say quality websites, I mean a selected few that you can count on your finger tips, don’t waste excessive time on trying to follow hundreds of blogs out there, as the majority have nothing new to offer.

Keep a tab on the relevant websites:

Another type of websites that you should closely monitor for link building ideas are the relevant websites. Remember that the relevancy is not limited to your competitors, but websites with a subject matter which has any kind of connectivity with your targeted keywords. For example, if you’re optimizing for the keywords Acronis Promo or Norton 360 discounts, you should spend some time on websites or blogs with a relevant theme like online entrepreneurship, shopping, money saving, retailing, and the likes.

I like most my anchor text being split apart, but made most of my forum usernames run together because I thought that was more memorable.

Interesting advice about not searching Google for SEO tips–seems like it’s all right in the case of white hat techniques though.

I’ve always said you have to be willing to do almost anything to get a link. Give interviews, snap pictures that will end up on some site, do guest posting. I think the whole social thing is underestimated. If you have friends with websites, ask them to do link exchange (not reciprocal). They don’t even have to be into seo.

For sure the best way is to leverage link building strategy and leverage link building as much as possible, every links matter.
