Team Blogging: Ideas for New Bloggers
So you’re interested in starting up a blog, but you’re intimidated by all of the work associated with nurturing it during those first few months before traffic starts to rise? Maybe you know a lot about a specific niche, but you don’t necessarily have the connections to attract a readership? Do you prefer to collaborate with others on a project? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you might consider starting a group or team blog. Team blogging can be the solution you need in order to allow you to be a successful blogger.
Whatever your reasons, team blogging offers multiple benefits, especially to bloggers new to the scene. Think about your goals, and then you and your team members can decide how to organize the blog. Questions to consider include the following: how many team members should write for the blog? How do we generate ideas for content? Who is responsible for what kinds of content? Who is responsible for managing the blog behind the scenes? Will there be an editor or will the blog run by committee? How you answer these questions will determine the success of your blog, how its readers react, and how it fits into the blogging community.
For example, a blog of writers who can all post content as they see fit without running it by an editor can really jump on trending topics and recent developments within the community. However, the blog risks running repeat content, as well as content that hasn’t been edited by another set of eyes. Of course, there are ways to work around this. Bloggers could only cover a subcategory, and weekly virtual meetings could keep everyone aware of the direction of the site.
Likewise, on the other side of the continuum is a site that is edited from the top down. Such a blog could create much more expansive, refined, and in-depth content. This content might not keep up with breaking news, but it could offer the community a chance at subtle and complex reflection on the greater issues at hand. Of course, the disadvantage of this editorial structure is that it would require strong leadership from the editors, and a staff of writers willing to focus on their projects for the long-term.
And there’s certainly nothing keeping an aspiring blogger from combining these two examples in any way, as each new blogger or team of new bloggers will have a unique way of achieving their goals. The important thing is that you try to find a team of bloggers with whom you share a passion for blogging, for the internet, and for whatever niche all of you join.

Team blogging or using the newspaper/magazine approach is a great way to get a wide variety of topics in front of an audience which increases faster than with one-post-a-day blogs.
I like the idea of teamizing but I’ll confess – I do tend to be much more of a “I can do everything meself!” kinda gal.

The idea of a team blog is definitely a good one. It is better to work in a team in pretty much every field there is, not only blogging. Of course in order to make the team work a success, you need to find the right people. You can’t just get a friend, who doesn’t know nothing about blogging, to help you.

Definitely team blogging is a great idea, unfortunately it is difficult to find a reliable partner when you are working at home. For companies this is very powerful and easy thing and key to success.

Team blogging is great when it works, but the hard part is finding people willing to work on the same site. Issues such as editorial control and site ownership can be problematic.
I have only really seen this work on things like fan sites which are done for love rather than money.

Many of the comments mentioned problems arising from working in a team. Do you think offering to let people guest post on your site is a better alternative? That way you keep control of your blog, seems to be the biggest issue with team blogging, but you still get help with fresh content from others in your niche. What are your thoughts?

I think Josh, that would depend upon the mindset of the person who is blogging. I have seen people achieving great success using either of the two or both of the two. Some have even achieved success doing blogging all alone, all it matters is the hard work and the determination. Speaking about the disadvantages of one over another they both have their own share of disadv. and adv. since even in Guest blogging there is a problem in getting a regular stream of guest bloggers.

Thanks for the reply. As an entrepreneur I’m always leery of taking on partners. I don’t want to ruin a friendship over a business idea. I’m a little controlling when it comes to my projects though and as you mentioned others may look at it completely differently than me and have no problems at all working with partners.

Team blogs are quite useful when small groups of people wish to contribute to a single blog. Basically, one person initially creates the blog, then adds other people to it as members. So in my view it is a great idea!

I agree that team blogging is a good idea. But you may need to consider the following points:
1)availability of authors.
2)common interests between authors.
3)trust between authors.
deciding a admin for the blog also is important.
not bad idea! Ofcourse you have to find the write people; probably existing bloggers who you already know and estimate their work quality.
