Ready to Sell Your Web Site? Make Sure it Stands Out from the Crowd!

| August 14, 2011 | 20 Comments More

As a web site or blog owner, the idea of selling your web site might not be out of the question. Did you know that over 1,000 web sites are listed on the Flippa market place every day? It’s easy and quick to get your web site up and running with an auction, but to make you auction stand out and deliver what buyers are looking for, it takes some work. One of the best ways to make your auction stand out from the competition is with Flippa upgrades.

Before we jump into auction upgrades, let’s first cover a few must have topics that you will need to include in your auction.

  • Google Analytics – No matter what type of web site or blog you have, no one is going to want to buy your site if you don’t have reliable web stats. Google Analytics has become the standard for web tracking and Flippa actually has a process in place where they can verify that Google Analytics stats are accurate. Before listing your web site for auction on Flippa, make sure you are using the Google Analytics platform so you can provide the most detailed and up to date stats for your site.
  • Revenue & Screenshots – Possibly just as important as your web stats, are your actual web site revenue and earnings details. The best way to show your earnings is with a monthly breakdown of total revenue and costs, along with screenshots if possible.  The further back you can go on site earnings and breaking them down into month reports, the more likely bidders will have an interest in your site auction.

As we mentioned earlier, there are over a thousand active listings always running on the Flippa web site, so how can your listing stand out and not get lost in the mix? The best way is with Flippa upgrades.

For an additional fee, you can purchase upgrade options that will grab the eye of users browsing through the Flippa auction listings. No matter the size of the web site you are selling, I recommend you always go with the bold text, highlighted listing and adding a border around your listing. These three upgrades combined will only cost you around $20.

If you are attempting to sell a web site for over $5,000, I would highly recommend you go for the main page listing upgrade, which costs $40. There is also an option to have your listing sent out to the 5,000+ users who are following @Flippa on Twitter.

Using these upgrade options and including all of the necessary information that buyers are looking for, you are on your way to create a killer auction listing that will attract quality buyers. I have never known that it is so important to upgrade the site in such a way. Of course I understand that when you sell a site it should be in a good way, but this site will for sure help to make your own blog or site much better

Include as much as possible information, reply to questions, be honest. Selling websites isn’t easy and a lot of marketing have to be done first.

It isn’t as easy as it was probably about a year ago. There are so many websites for sell, that probably the best is to pay for featured add for maximum exposure. I agree with the tip to include GA.

Well, what you have mentioned in this article is correct, however if a website stands out of the crowd, it sounds like new successful story and probably steady income, so there is no point selling it.

  6. Buying someone’s website like that is totally interesting. I hadn’t even thought of that! I figured that people pretty much keep their websites for years, and then let them fade out if they stop using them; it never occured to me that you can buy and sell them! That is awesome, and I book marked that buy and sell website you mentioned. Thanks for that!!

I listed one of my blog on flippa but I found its harder if you can’t show revnue even if you have decent traffic. I guess its helpful to list after you implement Adsense and other monetization options first.

Definitely easier to bring in potential buyers if you have an existing revenue source. Though I have seen some well established sites without revenue that have still sold for a lot of money. It’s all about what the new owner can do with it.
