Can’t agree with you more about harsh color schemes – especially bright green on black with animation. Nothing much makes me want to run faster than a forever scrolling black and colored screen with frames. I would on the other hand love to buy one of these 10 year old sites and revamp it. There is often so much material yet the owners don’t seem to understand they need to get with the new program.

As a recent hire for a small electronics company, and a long time “web guy” – I am the first to review many of these things… well… ever! As a professional, I completely agree with everything you’ve said.

If companies truly want to have a presence online, especially moving forward, they are going to have to take notice, get the proper education (and resources – cough – specialists), set aside some online marketing budget (scary words there, still, for companies), and make a genuine effort to grow their business via the online market – which can be MUCH larger than many small companies realize, I think.

Many are catching on, but aren’t prepared to make the necessary commitments – we’ll see who climbs and who falls in the end!
