Nokia N8: First Look and Specifications

| April 28, 2010 | 17 Comments More

Nokia every year releases a flagship phone, last year it was N97 and this year it is going to be N8.  Nokia announced on Tuesday about the N8. N8 will become available in the UK in the third quarter of 2010, with an estimated retail price of €370 (£321) before taxes and subsidies.

The Nokia N8 has a 3.5-inch OLED, capacitive touch screen, and even a  compass and accelerometer. The N8 uses the open Source Symbian^3 an improvement over the Symbian^2 and Symbian^1 OS. N8 will be the first phone to use the open Source Symbian^3 platform. The new features in Symbian^3 that were missing in its predecessors include multitouch and flick-scrolling, along with a new 2D and 3D graphics architecture. The new Symbian OS is fully open source and I am sure this will certainly help in pulling up the market for Symbian based phones and for new developments to come in the Symbians applications development.

Among the other notable features, Nokia N8 has 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash, HD quality video capture, free global Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation, and unique 5 band WCDMA support.

Taking into account that  Nokia is the world’s popular cellphone manufacturer in India as well as the world and the fact that Nokia sells more phones in a second then what Apple sells in a year. I am pretty much sure there are a number of Nokia fans eagerly waiting for this release (Including us. )

And you did not bother to read all the articles or the N8 Microsite did you?

  2. Vincent Chow says:

I have a love hate feeling towards Nokia. They can invent great device, but their attitude is far from what I expect. It’s just like when they start manufacturing touch screen device, the S60 3rd are left in the dust with no support whatsoever.

Even if they do, they are only doing so for their newer device. Say the official Facebook app, they are only releasing it to S60 5th and selected S60 3rd device, when it can virtually run on just any S60 3rd device.

    Why so unfair?

The N900 is absolutely great, but they are not putting enough attention to it. No one knows when they will release a new OS version and NOT bother to provide an update to their older device.

Until Nokia get its attitude right, the N82 will be my last Nokia device.

Ya I agree with you Vincent, Nokia has been quite bad at marketing their products properly as well as providing support to their previous Symbian OSes but I am pretty much sure this time around it will do better because it has made the Symbian^3 OS open source. lets hope for the best

I like N8 ,because it comes bundled with Nokia’s Ovi Maps GPS navigation software, which unlike the system Google bundles with Android phones, has all the maps preloaded .
