Microsoft to roll out Pink Social Smartphones on April 12

| April 7, 2010 | 8 Comments More

After Google, now it is the turn of Microsoft to enter the smartphones scene with its Pink series Smartphones. Even though the software giant has yet to confirm officialy but Sources say that Microsoft has sent out tickets to an event slated on April 12.

This “Pink” phones will be targeting youths and will be focusing on social networking and Zune Services. The release fo Microsoft’s Pink series of phone comes a little before Microsoft releases devices based on Windows Phone 7.

According to un-named sources there will be four lines of product Pure, Turtle, Lion and Pride under the Pink series. While some other sources  sources say that Microsoft will only release two products that is Pure and Turtle.

Microsoft has also resently changed the name of its new mobile Phone OS project “Windows Phone 7 Series” to “Windows Phone 7″.

So what is to be seen here is that will Microsoft be able to compete in such a competitive market which some critics say has become “saturated” or will it be something like the Google Nexus One which did not get good feedback. It has to be noted that before Microsoft, Apple and Google are the software gaints who have tried to shift niches into the mobile hardware world. Apple succeeded with its Iphone while Google was not able to do well it’s Nexus One. Still Google is doing good with it’s software platform that is Android.

Let’s see what the Pink smartphones is going to bring with it.

  1. Even if they manage to pair it with Windows Phone 7 platform, I can’t say it looks aesthetically great.. in someway, the shape reminds me of a midget-banana. Hopefully that’s just the prototype.

  2. If they really want to be able to compete in the lower end market, then they will have to have the price to match. They will also have to make the UI very intuitive (MS sometimes has a hard time with this) to attract these users.

These phones got axed so quickly. There is no point in having a “dumb” smartphone. From the ad campaigns that featured young shirtless dudes taking pictures of each other to the overall marketing of the phone was a complete misstep on MSFTs part. If this phone was made 100 dollars cheaper and configured their business model to work on download transactions it could have been a hit.

It’s good but maybe for kids, i’m not sure if it could be good competitor for Android based smartphones…
