Microsoft Kin – The Pink Series Phone Launched

| April 13, 2010 | 11 Comments More

A few days back I had informed my readers that Microsoft was going to launch its Pink set of smartphones on April 12th. Many speculated that it was just another rumour but Microsoft rolled out the dice yesterday to prove all those speculations false and released the Pink Series of smartphones yesterday.

The Redmond based Microsoft Corp. on Monday unvieled two phones Kin One and Kind Two (unlike the speculated names being Pure and Turtle).  These devices run on a special version of the Windows Phone OS–not Windows Phone 7 or even version 6.5–so many of the core Windows Phone features aren’t available in the Kin OS. Surprisingly there is zero third part application support not even in browser support for Flash or SIlverlight.

KIN is expected to become available for purchase in the United States exclusively via Verizon Wireless starting May. You can expect European users also to enjoy Kin sometime during the fall since Vodafone is set to launch the handsets in Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. These two devices have multi touch capabilities, having QWERTY keyboard and are meant for the sub-25 youngsters who spent their time swapping messages and images, using Facebook and Twitter and other social media sites.

Microsoft Kin are the very first smartphones which will use the low powered Tegra chips of Nvidia. Even though Tegra has already powered some portable media players like the Microsoft  Zune HD and the Samsung M1 but it had yet to be introduced in a smartphone.

According to PCWorld “Similar to Motorola’s MotoBlur interface for Android, Kin is a cloud-based OS. When you capture photos or videos on your Kin phone, they’re automatically uploaded to the Kin server. You can log into your Kin account on your PC to view and share your media.”

Some Specs of the Kin according to Engadget.com

“Kin One — the phone we’d seen rumored as “Turtle” — is basically a curved square slider with a QVGA display, 4GB of internal storage, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, and a full QWERTY keyboard. Kin Two, meanwhile, is the phone leaked as the “Pure,” upping the ante with a HVGA display and a more traditional landscape QWERTY slide form factor. It also moves up to an 8 megapixel cam and 8GB of internal storage, but otherwise, the experience is roughly the same as what you get on the One; both phones have WiFi and Bluetooth in addition to their 3G cellular radios”

An interesting thing that my friend Pradeep Kumar of Hellboundbloggers brought to my notice through his post, is that this Kin’s homepage is using Flash instead of Microsoft’s proprietary Silverlight (a Flash Competitor). Quite Interesting, eh?

So what do you all think of the Microsoft Kin smartphones, do you think it will be a huge success? Please leave your comments.

  6. Howdy, i read your weblog occasionally and i own a similar one and i was just wondering should you get a lot of spam comments? If so how do you avoid it, any plugin or anything you can advise? I get so much lately it’s driving me mad so any assistance is very much appreciated.

  7. I like second one more than first one mobile. First one is also good but I hate the shape of that mobile. The wide screen mobile is looks alike communicator. What would be the price of it, I would like to buy one…
