List of Third-Party Comment Systems for Blogs And Websites

| September 9, 2011 | 22 Comments More

Bloggers who are using blogspot as their blogging platform can take the help of third-party comment system to enhance social interaction on their blog. Those who don’t like the default blogspot comment system can outsource their comment on external comment platform.

Self-hosted wordpress user can also use it. The benefits of using external comment system on  is that on a high traffic site you will save significant amount of hosting server’s bandwith since the comment will be loaded from external site. Moreover, keywords density on your blog post will not be diluted because the external comment system uses javascript which google bots can’t read it.

Some of the popular third-comment systems are listed below with their features.

top blog comment platforms

Disqus

For commenting life, it includes a real-time comment system, a notification and reply system, inline media commenting, and sending comments through mobile support. The community box can accommodate profiles of posters either within the site or from social networking sites, where comments can be linked and shared to other social pages. It has moderation tools, spam killers, and word filters, which can be accessed via online or through mobile apps. All comments, no matter what language, can be imported and exported, from and to other sites. It can be customized, and is SEO friendly.

IntenseDebate

It has comment threading that makes commenting on the topic, or to people, easy to distinguish. Commenters can be sent email notifications once response is recognized, which can also be responded through email. They can use profiles and reputation points to become famous, while moderation or blacklisting is optimized. It also has social site integration and RSS reader tracking.

Livefyre

It has a live commenting streaming, which accommodates comments, voting, ratings, nested replies, media inclusion, and moderation that can be accessible through online or mobile. Its moderator tool can flag comments, notify through email, and ban or white list users. Social media integration can utilize account username for login, can synchronize with social page, and can share comments direct to the social network. Communities can notify users and respond through email, has follow functions, and can use Gravatar for image profile.

The major drawback of livefyre is that you can’t comment using your name, email id and url. You must have a Livefyre account to make a comment on a blog or either way you can comment using twitter or facebook. This is actually good to kick out spammers but in the end you will loose many valuable commenters because there are many users who want to comment quickly on a blog and don’t want to waste their valuable time by logging into twitter, facebook or creating an account on Livefyre.

The best commenter software will depend on the user level of the individual. When you like to be famous, Livefyre is the best. If you like everything stuffed in one system, it should be Livefyre. Overall, it is definitely better than the blogspot’s default commenting system due to the many features and integration system that is all bundled in one nifty package, giving life, color, and movement to the art of commenting.

Personally I am using intense debate because it has a template similar to wordpress’ default comment system and I am getting more comment than before when I moved to intense debate from Disqus.

I don’t think that it’s needed to replace WP commenting with 3rd party one. Adding extra JavaScript is not the best idea, as well this doesn’t give a lot of control on comments.

I’m a big fan of Disqus, and I have heard about IntenseDebate, but never used it. Any commenting I come across that uses LiveFyre I don’t comment on; I’m not a fan of it.
