Link Building means getting relevant and a lot of quality backlinks to your website so that Google and other search engines rank your website higher in their search results.

You may be spending a lot of hours in a day to build link for your website but have you ever wondered how many links should I build for my site, what kind of link building method should I use? and from Where should I get these links? I am sure you have asked yourself these questions many times.

Recently, I came across an Infographic at VerticalMeasures from a comment left by Kristi of Kikolani.com which quite perfectly answers all your questions on link building. It tries to show you what is the value of each type of link building methods and also shows you how many average links you need to get to different Pageranks. For example you need about 28,080,881 average links to get to Pagerank 10.

The Infographic compares link building to drinking beer that is why you can see the Infographic has a theme of drinking and is aptly title “Linktoberfest!“.

It tries to tell that link building is much like drinking. One can compare low quality links to low quality cheap bear and the high quality links like e.g. from a PR10 page or a “.edu” link could be compared to the finest of the finest and most costliest beer.

In order to quench your link thirst this infographic provides you a lot of Information about the quality of different types of Links.

    Hi Shiva,

The PR stats is new to me. I don’t really focus on PR much these days, but it’s interesting to know them. I also don’t focus on all these linking methods actually. But great post which I have saved in my list of interesting blog posts.

I agree about the link building way, but I do not about this table of PR related to number of links. I have see few times website with PR4 or PR5 with about 2-3 good links and low link popularity. As well it depends on the niche. Link building is probably the most important factor of successful SEO campaign. It have always been ever green and the only way to try to achieve high rankings for targeted keywords.

However, I agree with George’opinion. The PR does not only depend on the number of backlinks.

Thanks Shiva. I agree with going for Content Distribution as far as press releases and guest blogging goes. The good thing about press releases is they usually show up for at least 24 hours on the front page of google for multiple keywords (especially in the title). It can be a good short and long term strategy for building links if you have the budget for it.

With no budget, you can’t beat guest blogging!

Not too sure about the Link Counts against Page Rank…

It all depends on quality of link. I like the quality scores for the links, however content distribution can range from 1 – 5, depending on where it goes, and what the content is like.

There are many PR3 blogs with even 7000 Yahoo back Links… You could have a million comment links but without any power.

    Shiva Chettri Reply:

Ya, And I have about 13,000 Yahoo Backlinks and I am having only PR3….Maybe those are just some kind of rough averages. I would better delve into the post that has been referenced while making it

hmm, i know PageRank is exponential, but 296 links for PR3? We’ve got over a thousand, most of them pretty good, and we’re only PR2.

    Shekhar Sahu Reply:

It also depends on the page rank/ link juice of the linking website. Only quality “dofollow” links count. But in google webmasters you will find links including “nofollow”
