Images Or Videos – Choosing Which One To Go For

| September 29, 2011 | 10 Comments More

Which one do you want to go for? Is it images or videos? This is a difficult choice because images and videos are actually in the same category. To help you in your choice, a presentation on some advantages or perceived disadvantages are presented for you to scrutinize.

First, we will examine Images. Images have been in existence for a long, long time. From primitive sketches, to artist’s renditions to film photography, images have captured moments where words are difficult to express. Images have been revolutionized when they were introduced in digital format. The image digital format allowed viewing as the image was captured so you have the choice to save or reject the image.

The advantages of images in digital format are these: they are easy to capture, they are easy to edit, they are easy to post and lastly they do not take much disk space. The perceived disadvantages are really not many. One example is that images may need captions and headings, in order for the specific message to get across. Otherwise, everyone may interpret the message differently and these may create confusion.

Secondly, we will examine Videos. Though not as old as the existence of images, videos have become part of daily life and entertainment. From the silent movies, the television and currently, the multimedia format, videos come in different kinds and forms. They are both entertaining as well as overwhelming.

The advantages of videos in digital format are these: they are easy to capture, also easy to edit, easy to post but they take a larger disk space than images. The perceived disadvantage may range from: the higher cost of video equipment to the more amount of time spent in editing the video.

So, which one do you go for in your blog? It actually depends on your audience, visitor and target demographic base. The choice of your blog theme is also crucial. If your theme is music, then video is the way to go. But if your theme is the arts, painting for example, images is the way to go.

Taking the merits of both images and videos to the core, you will be better off if your blog will present a mix of both but in the right proportion, relevant to your blog theme and style. Professional blog formats and layouts include a mix of images and videos. That is the way to go for the future of your blog. Your blog has more potential of attracting visitors and well as potential customers for ads that you will post, if you can get the proper mix of images and videos. Some visitor may appreciate images but some may love the videos. It would be best for you to present a mixture of both.

I woudl rather prefer videos as they bring more advantages. You can get more information from the video becasue we have an image and sound.

I think it depends on the style of your blog. I do think that a proper video takes a bit more effort to create than an image. However, the advantage of the video is that it connects with the visual as well as the audio senses of your audience. That way you are connecting better. However, if you have images and a strong writing style, you can still be very effective.

Good try to scrutinize both the aspects but I think the right proportion also seems vague. I think I will go with images because it gives me more opportunity as what to present exactly. A direct hit on the final product instead of a video where it beat around the bush for say 2-3 minutes

I’ll go for videos. Videos can contain images. So if you go for videos, you actually have images. The drawback is, videos are larger files than images.

Images or videos whatever it may be but it must be properly optimized. I prefer videos because it has the capability to reach the customer fast.

As a reader most of the time, I personally choose videos than images for tutorials while pictures for scenery, etc. Video tutorials are far more better because I could easily follow instructions even without listening to the voice over. Pictures, if it’s for travel blog (as an example), because I could appreciate the beauty of nature in that way. Either way, is a good choice, but we need to make sure that choosing one format serves its purpose.

Many viewers will not be able to necessarily view your video depending on what device they’re using, what OS, etc. I’m not sure that it has to be a “one or the other” scenario; you can integrate both. Also I think tutorials are best explained through static images and instructions, so you can read along at your own pace instead of having a video breeze by.

  8. What you upload on your site must match the intention of your site. Proper use of multimedia should be done inorder to make your contents more informative and attractive. But guys, don’t just fill your site with images and videos of all sorts.

  9. Caviar says:

A site must have graphics to make it attractive. But there must be correct proportion to the use of multimedia and textual content. Else, your site will look horrible.

  10. Great explanation! But I feel there is no fixed method, as it all depends upon what message you want to convey and what you think among the two (images / video) or may be both will be best to put forward your conversation.
