How to Choose the Best Affiliate Offer: Determining the Best Affiliate Program

| December 13, 2012 More

Affiliate marketing is much more competitive than it used to be, but there is still an appeal there, since it can be quite lucrative. The big question is how ot choose the

best affiliate program

. There are many affiliate programs from which to choose, though, so it may be difficult to decide on the one(s) you will join.

The featured ad networks which see some of the heaviest usage include Advertising.com, which is actually the technology and data arm for AOL Advertising. This is an attractive network for larger advertisers and publishers, with results that are hard to beat.

Don’t confuse the network above with Advertise.com, which will enable you to reach out to a broader target audience, through their publisher properties and search engines.

It’s not always easy to find the best affiliate network for your purposes, especially if you’re new. Clickbank has an excellent product range, acceptable commissions, helpful support and a system that is easy to use. Clickbank is mentioned on most affiliate sites, and it’s grown a great deal since its inception in 1998.

Clickbank is now a provider of online retail services that has more than 12,000 vendors of digital products and more than 100,000 affiliates who are active on the network. They process 26,000+ transactions a day and average more than 700,000 unique visits every month. They have become a major player in affiliate networks.

Quantol is a network specializing in casual and social gaming inventory, and advertisers here can target a receptive and engaged audience on a global scale, with one access point.

Media.net has contextual advertising, which can help publishers to generate higher levels of eCPM’s, since they deliver targeted, relevant and well-paying ads.

Monetizeit is an affiliate network based on performance, and is among the leaders in the field. It gives you direct access to many major brands, which include exclusive offers from some of the top advertisers that you simply won’t find anywhere else.

ValueClick, Inc. offers 12 years of affiliate marketing experience, and gives you access to data resources that are global in scale. In its field, it’s the most robust and the largest audience network.

adBrite is actually not a network but an exchange, serving over one billion impressions over 120,000 sites. The sheer numbers make it an attractive choice.

Regardless of the network you choose, you’ll want to keep apprised of Clickbank’s gravity scores. These are calculated by using a product’s overall score, dependent on the number of affiliates who make sales with the product.

If you or another affiliate begins promoting a ClickBank product, and you make a sale after a few days, the overall product score will be 1. If another affiliate promotes the same product and also makes one sale, then 2 would be the overall score.

As an affiliate, you need to understand that even if you sell six or seven copies of the same product in a day, that doesn’t bring the score to six or seven. You can only add one point yourself to the overall product gravity score. This score gives an accurate indication of the success with which a product is converting by each affiliate.

If gravity was added for each individual sale, that would give the product a false score, since some affiliates may use large mailing lists, while you may be working only through a small site with low traffic. You could actually be converting at a better rate than the marketer with the large mailing list, even though your totals are much lower.

    Good topic Kori,

In my research I have yet to hear a successful blogger complain about their affiliate NETWORK more than the product itself.

This tells me the weak link in the chain is the niche selection, the network that you choose to promote isn’t usually the problem.

It’s like once I was playing golf and complaining about my clubs then this guy who knows how to play hit like 10 great shots in a row with my club. That told me that maybe it was how I was using it.

Same lesson I learned in Affiliate marketing its not what you do but how you do it.

It’s not easy to find a good affiliate program, especially if you’re looking for separate affiliate programs instead of going through services like ClickBank, Commission Junction etc.
I mostly look for the payout, payment schedule and promotional material. If they seem fine I’m more than likely to join that service.

    Hi Kori,

I’ve been using mostly Clickbank’s affiliate network. There are a lot of great products there you can choose from.

I always look for products that allow the user to have more free time and less struggle, ultimately that is what everyone wants from a product they buy online.

Great article, looking forward to new tips on affiliate marketing from you.Cheers.
