I’d recommend to someone that you need some talent in order to participate in these types of contests. You have no idea how many times I’ve seen someone post horrible designs that clearly showed nothing that’s new. Like something pulled out of a 1999 banner from a website.
Anyways, designing can make you a lot of money, you just need the talent!

Another competition graphic designers can consider are online t-shirt design contests. For example, Shirtscuffle.com offers weekly contests where designers receive $500, plus $1 for every shirt sold with their original artwork designs. There is no entry fee for Shirtscuffle.com. Similar contests are available at Threadless.com and DesignbyHumans.com
