We all know that we can earn money from text links (in-text advertising) and videos (in-video advertising) but do you know that we can earn money from our images too and I am not talking about earning money by uploading your Images to Image sharing sites or stock photo sites but earning money just by displaying Images on your own Blog or site. Cool isn’t it?

Yes! You can now earn money, just by displaying Images on your own sites. The only thing you have to do is to sign up for an In-Image Advertising network and then add their Javascript code or plugin in your blog/site. After you add the code, these network will start displaying small advert at the bottom of your images. These adverts only appear if you hover your mouse around the advert space so it won’t disturb the visual appeal of the images.

Many Image focused sites like Entertainment sites, movie news, celebrity fansites, Wallpaper sites use these platform to earn a lot of revenue. Maybe you could too.

List of In-Image Advertising Networks

Currently there are very less In-Text advertising networks but we hope pretty soon in the future that more and more companies are going to take advantage of this unexplored niche.

1)Image Space Media

Image Space Media was the first company that experimented this niche.Image Space Media (formerly PicAd Media) is a TechCrunch50 demopit company and is the most popular in this niche

Image Space Media pay you for displaying their In-Image Advertising in your Website’s Images. They have a highly intuitive dashboard called the PubStop platform. This platform allows publishers to value which of their images are yielding higher earnings so they can place content in the places that earn the highest click-through-rates (CTRs).

The dashboard features section through which you can view the ad impressions, earning, CTRs and eCPMs (much like Google Adsense).

Currently Image Space Media Offers only text Adverts but plan too launch adverts in other medias soon. Image Space Media also offers a plugin for WordPress Users so that they do not have to insert codes and all. Also payments are sent through Paypal

Just have a look at an Example of Image Space Media Ad:

The box appearing at the bottom is an ad on this particular Image .

To SignUp Go here:

Image Share Media Program

2)GumGum

GumGum was first started in 2008 as an technology to track photos so that the photo owners could generate royalty revenue from the people who published/use the photos on their web sites. Just a few days back they completely transitioned to in-image ads. The company had stated testing in-image advertising a few months back and now it is live.

Even though the dashboard of this network does not have many options and shows the Earnings and Impressions report.

This advertising network overlays small banners on your Images. You just need to add a small Javascript code on your site to start earning and Payments are made via Paypal. See below for an example of the advert

The Small “Dear John” Ad is a Gum Gum Advert

3) Embed Anything

While this platform is not a fully In-Image Advertising Network but this Company does use the in-image advertising framework to help you earn money.

Embed Anything‘s basic idea seems to be somewhat similar to what GumGum had implemented when It first launched. The idea that to help picture owners profit off whenever somebody uses their images.

The startup’s technology allows you to add an embed button (only displays when you move over it) on your images ( as well as on articles ) in your website so that anyone can grab a image code and use it in their web pages. Once the image is embedded, an overlay image will start displaying along with a link back to the source.

The network allows the publishers to choose what advertisement they want to display in that adspace. The publisher can use any Ad networks like AdSense, AdBrite etc. For 50 impressions the publishers ad will be displayed and for other 50 the network will display their own Adsense ads (50-50 split revenue sharing). The network offers you a dashboard where you can check how many impressions your image has got, where the Image has been embedded and also allows you to delete unwanted embeds.

Embed Anything also offers you a WordPress Plugin which you can use in your WordPress Blog. For other sites, you need to add a small Javascript code. Check out an example of the Advert.

And Ya! I forgot to mention. This type of adverts have more CTR than even Adsense Ads.

Payout Details

1) Image Space Media: Payouts are done once your account reaches 25$, you can receive payment through check or Paypal.

2) GumGum: Payouts are done monthly but no payout limits has been mentioned. Pays through Paypal.

3) Embed Anything: You do not have to worry about payout for this because you will be using your own Advertising Network (Adsense, Adbrite) and they will just display your ads.

You were asking me the best among these three. It will depend on what kind of site do you have. If you have a celebrity or a Movie related site then GumGum is the one for you. For others I would recommend ImageSpace Media. I cannot comment on the CTR of these sites because these networks are comparatively new and have been introduced only a few months back. Gum Gum was released only a week back so we have not have enough time to check the CTR rates.

Also yes! These adverts can be used alongside Adsense in your Blogs

Update:

A little while back, while I was chatting with one of my friend, Shaquille Ray of SeoPostman.com in Facebook about this post, he mentioned about AdBrite which also offers In-Image Advertising service like the above sites named as BritePic. The reason I did not include BritePic in this list is that for using BritePic, you need to insert code snippets in your page for each of the image which I think is not viable. So just to mention, BritePic is also an In Image Advertising Service from Adbrite

Affiliate marketing is an area that not many people are familiar with. What it is, is a lucrative business that many individuals are taking on as a main source of income or as a side business. Finding the right product to promote is incredibly necessary for any kind of success as well as profits with affiliate marketing ventures.

The payment methods in affiliate marketing is quite the attraction for many online entrepreneurs because the sum of the methods of payment used by various affiliates differ in compensation structure, payout thresholds, and commission percentages. Each method has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages and online marketers weigh each of them to find a suitable vendor affiliate with a payment method that they really like and feel confident about.

Over 80 percent of most all online affiliate programs use the cost per sale or the revenue share method as their compensation platform. This involves distributing the payout based on the profit made from each sale or a portion of the sale. The other 19 percent of affiliates use the cost per action method of which payouts are distributed based on the customer’s actions. The remaining 1 percent uses methods other than CSP or CPA to generate their payment structure. There are several successful payout methods that affiliate marketers use to manage their business.

Click Per Impression (CPM)

The CPM type of payout is probably the most popular of all in the affiliate marketing payment methods. All that is required for payout to the affiliate is that the publisher loads the advertising onto his website, allowing his visitors to view it in order to get paid. CPM is used as the primary method of compensation by Google for their products including Adsense and Adwords. Although this type of compensation is not as popular or as lucrative as it was due to fraudulent activity, it is still a system that a lot of advertisers use and still many bloggers prefer.

Pay-Per-Click (PPC or CPC)

CPC differs in CPM because in order for the affiliate to be compensate, the visitor must go one step more and actually click on the link and visit the advertiser’s website for the affiliate to be paid. In this type of program, the publisher is concerned about drawing traffic to the site and not whether or not the customer purchases. The affiliate has already made his commission once the customer clicks on the link.

Click Per Action (CPA)

The method of compensation via Click Per Action requires the customer to click on the link and make a purchase before the affiliate will be compensated. Since marketing the products and ensuring the sale of items leans heavily on the advertiser, this type of compensation method is not as common but is certainly more lucrative than the others because of the additional steps to customer conversion and the skills necessary to motivate customers and promote the site.

So once all these methods are broken down, it’s not so scary right? Whether you choose CPM, PPC/CPC or CPA, the number one thing to remember is that you have to pick an affiliate and product that is right for you. If you don’t have confidence or passion about what you’re marketing, you won’t succeed at all.

Conversion simply means getting your site visitors to do something that you want them to do. Maybe sign up for a newsletter, enter a competition, apply for a quotation or buy something. Often, even a small increase in conversion rate can bring significant dividends.

Here are just 10 onsite factors which are known to influence visitor behavior and , when addressed, can bring about improvements in conversion rate:

1) The time that it takes for site pages to load has been found to be at the top of the list of things that adversely influence conversion rates. People really don’t like to wait, so test your web-page load times and ensure that, even in the worst case scenario (an old 28.8K dial-up modem), your site pages will each load within 20 seconds, or maybe 30 seconds at the absolute limit. While you may argue that nobody is using slow dial-up connections these days if you ensure that your site pages perform well under these worst-case conditions you can be confident that they will load at lightning speed for the majority of your site visitors.

2) Don’t use Flash introductions. Flash is a great tool and there are some fantastic Flash based site designs but it does nothing but put people off when they have to wait for a movie to load before progressing toward conversion. Remember that you are aiming for conversion and not for a web design award.

3) Don’t even use any graphics unless you must. Tests have shown that people are influenced first and most significantly by the text messages on a page so keep your graphical content to an absolute minimum and always optimize your images to ensure that your pages load lightning fast.

4) Make the function of your site obvious. For example, if you run an online store make certain your site looks like an online store. Or if your site is intended for children make certain that the colors, design and fonts use make it obvious that the site is intended for children. Making the function of a website obvious from the site’s design has been found to have a positive influence on the likelihood of conversion.

5) Remember that the text messages on your pages are of utmost importance so choose your font, font size, color and line spacing for readability. It is worth noting that direct marketers tend to choose the popular 12pt Courier font in their printed material. Always use a sans-serif font such as Arial, Verdana or Tahoma.

6) Make your site navigation simple and intuitive. Your navigation system should be so obvious that visitors are not required to think about it at all. Provide them with a simple navigation system that remains in the same location as they move from page to page. The familiar tab based design has been found to be the most popular and user-friendly style of navigation. It’s also important to always provide clear feedback that indicates the page that the visitor is currently viewing. This is often provided by highlighting the currently viewed tab and including a breadcrumb trail presenting easily followed text links.

7) It’s worth verifying that your site is accessible and viewable from all of the most popular web browsers on a range of display sizes. As for page load times, go for the worst case scenario of the oldest possible web browser on a display of only 640 by 480 pixels.

8) Provide the information that visitors want exactly where they want it. For example, you might provide delivery options and availability information alongside product descriptions and you might provide a reassuring message regarding the security of personal information right next to your newsletter sign-up button. This technique has been found to have a dramatic and positive influence on visitor behavior.

9) Use background images thoughtfully. Readability is a top priority so it’s important that your text stands out against the background of your site pages. If possible, avoid using background images in areas where you are presenting important messages.

10) Remember that most visitors will initially scan your pages so it’s useful to make important messages stand out by emboldening, enlarging, underlining or highlighting with a different background color.

Of course there is much more that can be done but these tips present some of the most basic considerations that I am certain will bring about improvements to your conversion rate.

While it might seem hard to believe, not everyone uses PayPal. For one reason or another, PayPal may not be feasible for your particular situation. It might be that you have not had the best of experiences with their service or it could be that you just don’t have access to their services for the types of transactions you wish to make. While to some, it might seem like PayPal is the only provider out there for secure financial transactions, there are other alternatives to their service. Here are a few options you might want to check out if you are finding that PayPal just isn’t for you.

1. Google Checkout

Well of course Google has joined the online payment game. Would you expect anything less from this titan of industry? Whether you’re a buyer, seller, or both, Google Checkout might be what you’ve been looking for. With rates ranging from 1.9% to 2.9% and $0.30 per transaction for sellers, this option could be worth checking into as a viable alternative to PayPal.

2. 2Checkout

Accepting customer orders through a wide variety of options including, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, PIN Debit, even PayPal, and a number of others, you might find 2Checkout.com a good alternative to PayPal. 2Checkout.com has a one time set up fee of $49 and then charges a 5.5% commission on each transaction and a $0.45 charge per sale.

3. E-Junkie

E-Junkie offers Buy Now Shopping Cart buttons, Shipping and Packaging calculator, and Discount codes among their many features. Pricing is based upon the number of products you have for sale and storage space and starts at just $5 a month. If you’re a non-profit organization, you may even qualify for a waived monthly fee!

4. CCNow

Providing credit card processing, shopping cart, secure checkout, and risk and fraud management as just a few of their services, and accepting a variety of payments methods, CCNow might be the right PayPal alternative for you. According to CCNow’s Client Rate Schedule, their retail margin is 4.99% of gross sales charge plus a $0.50 charge per transaction as well as a one-time new account setup fee of $9.95.
5. ClickBank

You can also take advantage of ClickBank’s affiliate marketers who can help promote your products or services for a commission.

I am sure all of us bloggers and webmasters know about Chitika. For those who do not know Chitika, Chitika is an advertising network which shows targeted ads to all your search engine visitors coming from US and Canada. This advertising network provides ad unit called Chitika Premium Ads which is only showed to your site visitors from US and Canada. If the traffic is non-US and non-Seacrh engine then this ad unit remains invisible. This advertising network can be used along side Adsense and has a good revenue generation rate.

The main news that I would like to update my fellow bloggers and friends about Chitika is that they are now slowly trying to spread their share in the non-search advertising segment too.

Chitika have now upgraded all their Chitika Premium ads to Chitika Select. Chitika Select is the recent upgrade to the Advertising module of Chitika. From now on, Chitika will not only display ads for search engine traffic but it will also display ads for some selected non search engine traffic. That is whenever Chitika feels there is a higher chance to receive a click on the ad, then an ad is displayed. This is truely a unique mechanism that Chitika is coming through with.

By default, this is an opt-out system instead of opt-in so all your ads will be using Chitika | Select by default but you can opt out of the Chitika | Select (i.e. both search engine and non search engine traffic targeted ad) and use only Chitika | Premium (only search engine targeted ad). Chitika put this as an opt-out option because of the feedback they had got back from their publishers. 90% of Chitika users wanted non-search engine traffic trageted ads also in Chitika.

Technology Behind Chitika Select

Chitika seems to have done a lot of work and research on the technology they will be using in Chitika Select. As according to them,

We have been conducting HUGE amounts of research over the past 1 year which allows us tremendous amount of insight into how users interact with ads. For example, did you know that IE users are twice as likely to click on an ad as FireFox users? These types of statistical studies are the core of this new predictive technology. This type of analysis is common in other industries such as insurance, credit cards, etc., and now Chitika is bringing that to online advertising. [Note: This new click prediction technology has been running on select publishers on parts of our UK traffic for the last 3 months — the results have been outstanding

They also guarantee highly relevant advertisments somewhat similar to Adsense. This to be seen as time passes by.

This new version of Chitika will also display Image ads like Adsense. You can opt out of the image ads if you want and then only text ads will be displayed in your site. This can be done in your Account Manager. Also you have the option of opting out of Chitika Select and showing only Chitika Premium ads in your site. It completely will depends on you.

You do not need to worry about a ton of ads showing up in your site. Chitika will be implementing select in small number of impressions and gradually increase the impression.

So as a wrap up, I would like to say that this comes as a good news for many people who still do not have their Adsense account approved by Google and for those who want and extra source of income along with adsense. And now seeing this development in Chitika happening, I think in the future if we want we will be able to use Chitika as the sole advertising network for our site.

For those who have not joined Chitika till now you can click here and join. Joining is very easy and free. And if you have been searching for an extra source of income along with adsense then Chitika is the most compatible.

Previously I had informed my fellow bloggers about the update to the Paypal withdrawal issue at this post http://www.netchunks.com/internet-software/internet/paypal-indian-banks-withdrawal-issues-resolved-more-problems-evolved/

Paypal had earlier stated that it will re-continue local bank withdrawal on March 3rd after suspending all withdrawals in India for atleast a month. According to that statement Paypal had also informed the users that from now onwards any Indian user who would want to withdraw to his bank would need an export code for the withdrawal. Since Paypal did not clarify What this Export Code meant many freelancers made a pre assumption that this Export Code was the IEC (Import Export Code) issued by the RBI for Import and Export. Thus this caused a lot of chaos in the Indian Freelancer community since the IEC Code is not easy to acquire.

On March 3rd, Paypal posted a new post in it’s blog and clarified everything about how an Indian should withdraw from Paypal. They also clarified that the Export Code that they were mentioning earlier did not mean the IEC code but instead it was a set of codes that they had made up themeselves so that they can categories what kind of transaction is happening. From now onwards while withdrawing to your bank account you will need to choose a purpose of your withdrawal (i.e. for what have you got the money ) for e.g. Freelance journalism, Hardware Consulting, Software Consulting etc. The whole list of Purposes can be checked here .

The selected purpose will appear as a code on your bank account statement along with the description.

So from now onwards when you withdraw money from Paypal to your bank account be sure to properly enter the purpose as listed so that you may not across any problem in withdrawal.

While on the other hand, those people who had withdrawn during this Paypal chaos, you all do not need to worry. Paypal is going to refund your account until this weekend as they stated.

And well for those who have not join Paypal. Well you should, it is one of the best Payment Processing system out there. Even though it goofs up sometimes, It is the easiest and the most reliable.
