Basic Link Building Strategies for the Everyday Blogger
For most blog owners, getting to the top of search engines could be a very daunting task. With the myriad of SEO strategies, understanding each and every one of these could spell the difference between having one of the most visited blogs and one that packs up after a few blog postings.
Thousands of blogs are created each day making it more difficult to stay on top of the heap. But difficult is not impossible and all it takes is a little know how and patience. For everyday bloggers struggling to understand what link building is, here are a few tips on how to get those PR juices flowing.
Article Submissions
One of the most basic ways of creating links to your site, article submissions are the most widely used method of building up links. Many has been said about the quality of links that these sites provide but if done correctly, this could instantly create a good number of backlinks heading your way. For those concerned with the quality of links created it would be a good idea to stick with high PR article submissions sites like Ezinearticles.com.
Guest Posting
Basically similar to article submissions, guest posting is another great method of link building. However, there are some basic differences that even a veteran article submission writer would quickly notice. The first thing that you would notice is the quality of writing goes up. We should remember that we are not dealing with submission sites which are often automated. In terms of link quality, guest posts certainly trump article submissions.
Forum Posting/ Blog Comments
This method is an easy way of generating links. It only requires a few words or sentence which is easier compared to writing 300 words or more just to get a link. The only thing to keep in mind when trying to create links from forums or comments is to search for similar niche niches. Another nice trick is to use your target keyword as the anchor text.
Web 2.0
Creating a Squidoo lens or HubPages site and posting products or services you offer helps you become an authority for your niche. Building quality content and making sure that you provide links to your main website. Web 2.0 pages are definitely a good source of high quality backlinks.
Social Bookmarking
Some of the popular social bookmarking sites include Reddit, Delicious, Stumble upon and Digg. But this should not end with creating an account and creating bookmark links. Creating an account with these sites gives you a wonderful opportunity of meeting like minded people and creating “real” links and new business opportunities.
Blog Submissions Sites
For blog owners, blog submission sites like NetworkedBlogs, Blogs.com, Bloglines and Technorati offer them an excellent opportunity to get maximum exposure and get well needed links. However, some of these sites may require owners to pay a “parking” fee for using their sites.
Review Sites
If you’re offering a product or service then asking another website to perform a review could provide you with an opportunity to get the word out and create links in the process. You could also talk with other website owners to review your website and offer the same service for them.
Link Directories
Some people think that submitting to link directories has no real value in terms of building quality links. But again, it is where you choose to submit the link that has a direct effect on the link’s quality. It is also important that you don’t go around submitting to every link directory you find, stick to quality link directories.
Link Exchanges
An offpage approach to link building is by exchanging links with other blog owners. A good way of building links is through a three-way or four-way link exchange. This could be challenging as directly corresponding with other website owners is needed.

Of all the methods you listed here for link building, I think the strongest one on the list is guest blogging. You are right about the quality of the article being much better with guest posts when compared with traditional article marketing. I think Google chooses to give the guest post more credit too because there is a real person on the other end either approving or disapproving of your guest blog submission.

Thanks for the great comments. I definitely agree with you Ted, guest posting is definitely a hard nut to crack. But even with the hours spent on creating a single link from guest posting it’s definitely worth the effort.
Currently trying to work on guest posting on other blogs, so far I’ve had someone else guest post on mine but his site isn’t a blog so I can’t return the favor.

With all the recent changes in search algorithms I guess its time that we start going back to the basics which is link building. Social media has become too big that some of us forget what the basics are. Time? Definitely, if I had a new website I’d give these some time before any results are seen. Thanks for the input!
I have into article writing business and I am often asked by my clients as to whether I submit my articles to other blogs. Now, I would love to do that, however, I just don’t know how to go about it. Do I have to contact the webmaster? And what are the criteria for a webmaster to accept my blog? Would love if you could answer that.
Well.. there are so many ways to build backlinks to your site.
If you have some $$ to spend you can buy links, buy blog posts from relevant blogs.
But, if you are someone like me, who don’t want to spend money for backlinks, all you have to do is concentrate on the content.

Guest posting is my preferred method to supplying great content and receiving good links. If you can land a spot blogging for an active community you will not only receive search engine traffic from these quality links, but you will get direct visitors from those reading your posts. Sometimes it can be difficult getting these spots though, which is when you need to resort to article submissions, and I personally love using Squidoo.
