What Happened: We are still gathering details, but it appears an unscheduled change to a core router by one of our datacenter providers messed up our network in a way we haven’t experienced before, and broke the site. It also broke all the mechanisms for failover between our locations in San Antonio and Chicago. All of your data was safe and secure, we just couldn’t serve it.

What we’re doing: We need to dig deeper and find out exactly what happened, why, and how to recover more gracefully next time and isolate problems like this so they don’t affect our other locations.

The servers were restored back to normal after 110 minutes.Even though The WordPress team worked very hard to resolve the issue in a small time frame, all those blogs were deprived of a total of 5.5 million pageview in 110 minutes of downtime.

Unfortunately there are very few  tools right now that can accomplish this task. Most of the tools that were offering these kind of services have shut down due to Twitter’s warnings. But there are still a few  such tools out there which we can put to our use.

1)  Buzzom Twitin

Easy follow & unfollow. Mass Unfollow who are not following you and mass follow who are following you. Just click select all and flush them.

So go to the site now and start unfollowing. Login to your twitter account through the application’s oauth system and then start flushing all the people who do not follow you  back. I recommend you only unfollow 100 people a day.

There is option of Reciprocate(follow back who follow you), Cross-Follow(Check Stats of other users) and Grow (I.e. follow more people)

Twitfresh is another tool that can do this job for you Just enter your Twitter username and Password and then freshen your Twitter account.

By now I think most of you have probably started using Buzz.  Even if you have not then I am sure you will be able to use it in the coming few days since it is just being rolled out.

If you are a gmail user and have not tried out the buzz, you can head to http://buzz.google.com and check out the options. You will probably get a screen like this:

If you can see in the page you will see that you can use Buzz in your Gmail account and also that Google Buzz has also been rolled out for Iphone and many other smartphones. So you can use it in your smartphones.

You should probably click on try buzz in Gmail so now you get into your gmail account. The buzz link is located just below your inbox link in gmail as depicted in the image below:

So click on the buzz button and check out its options and features. The various features that buzz will give your are

• It integrates with your Gmail account and Google profile giving you total all in one access
• It build up your friends list automatically from the contacts you already have and from those with whom you converse a lot. Buzz will also give you a list of “Recommended Buzz” users that will based on ‘friend-of-friend’ content sharing into your stream – even if those folks aren’t acquainted to the user.
• The main focus of Google buzz is real time sharing and updates what this means is that Buzz allows you to import feeds from Twitter, Picassa, Flickr and any other sites you want to (which has a RSS feed obviously)

Google Buzz directly infringes Brand copyright laws. If you can remember Yahoo already has a service called Buzz – which is mostly a social news service that collates user-select content from the web and ranks it on basis of popularity.

Google Buzz is also being compated to Facebook’s FriendFeed which allows users to post, share and view photos, videos and comment within the stream of updates.
