I also agree with some of the previous comments, writing is one thing, but promotion and SEO is very important too. Of course many people will say, content is king, but content without proper online marketing will remain unseen.
i would still like to stay stuck with “content is king” approach.With do respects to SEO,i feel where the content gets posted will decide whether it remains unseen or seen.

I agree with you, Crystal. Big block of text is very boring and difficult to read. Always break it up into multiple paragraphs, and preferably insert one or two pictures to spice them up a bit. You can also bold or italicize important points to make quick-reading easier.

300 words sounds like a reasonable length for a blog–give or take. IMO, a blog is the wrong format to post an 800+ word, detailed article. Blogs should generally have more of an off-the-cuff feel to them, as opposed to a structured article.
