5 Negative Factors For Your Blog And What To Do About It
If you are browsing through various blogs, you instantly know which are worth reading and which aren’t? The reason being, there is a social proof that helps you do so. By Social proof I mean the kind of readership, followers and comment that blog has. Whereas there are digital tumble tweeds- dead blogs that have been buried in the internet. Blogs with 2 followers and 5 comments, whose post have not been updated since years, is a big turn off. No blogger will like to subscribe to such a blog.
Few things that you don’t have to tell your readers, till you actually have their attention:-
1. COMMENTS:-
No comments on your blog? Then don’t think too much just disable your function button for comments. It is hard to receive comments initially. One reason why you don’t get comments on your blog could be lack of social proof- no comments, no followers so on and so forth.
By disabling the comments, no reader can actually see your comments and thus the social proof factor won’t be taken into consideration. On the contrary the same trick can come back to you, some bloggers might get irritated as they have no ways in which they can give their comment, and might not like to turn back to the blog. This situation sure is tricky. So once you have many visitors on your blog you can enable the comments, and thus conversation can initiate.
Start a blog comment competition, wherein the blogger with highest number of comments receives a gift at the end of the month.
This method clearly works, but in case you don’t want to shell out money then use a simple trick. Comment on other blogs that have a high readership, these bloggers then return the favor by commenting on their reader’s blog, it’s a very practical- give and take kind of a thing.
There are free pluggins available online that will show you where your blog has been mentioned, and the comments that have been made for your content. Say for example, you convert your content into you tube video, then a plugin named Genki You Tube comments- will gather the comments on You Tube and will put them as normal comments on your blog. Or twitter, say you have tweeted about a particular post, then tweet-toaster will gather all the comments, and you can view them underneath your blog.
There are also various pluggins available to display the name of the highest commenter on your blog, like CommentLuv plugin, can be helpful to do a follow up- link to commentator’s blog. These are simple ways in which you can receive many comments on the blog and make a social proof, till then the readers don’t need to know you had no comments till two days back.
2. RSS SUBSCRIBERS
If only 15 people have viewed you blog then you don’t need to display the feed readership numbers active, as it will put a negative impression on a reader. Feed burner shows reader how popular your blog is, i.e. how many people have subscribed to your blog. If your subscribers are not many then it is advisable that you don’t use it. One should wait till there are many readers who have subscribed, and then you can enable the feed readership.
3. NO. OF TWITTER FOLLOWERS
In social networking most of us have this notion about who is popular? Hence if you have very less twitter followers it is recommended that you don’t display the number of people who follow you. Getting twitter followers is very simple and in your hands, you have to follow few people, once you are in the social circuit, followers will come eventually.
4. UPDATED BLOG POSTS
Well, if you do not post on regular basis, then now is the time to be serious, and start posting it on regular basis. Only if the articles are posted regularly, will people feel like subscribing to you blog. Once you have a routine of uploading you posts more frequently, the viewership will increase, and there will be loyal readers too.
5. BLOG ASSOCIATION
It’s very important to promote your blog or else no one will ever know that a blog existed. You should have a substantial social proof, of products or services it offers and with whom it is associated. Further you can add a small box that has list of blogs you have been featured on, this will interest the reader and increase the traffic.
These are some things that successful blog and novice blog.

Commenting is one of the best way to share and keep the blog alive. Personally, I don’t even feel like visiting sites which do not allow readers to comment. I agree that there has been an alarming rise of spamming but genuine comments helps bloggers and site owners make their blog or site more efficient and user friendly.
no comments means no activity on the blog and thats a bad thing in terms fo SEO . google has clearly indicated that in the seo handbook ..

This negative factor might point at being careful about what you discuss in your blog posts. The user’s regular comments and regular updated Blogposts really much effective and important than all of the five factors.

Very nice informative post about what to avoid. I think disabling comments will be good for first couple of weeks. But afterwards it should be enabled as it is the way you can interact with your readers. Sometimes the readers get annoyed if they do not find a way to express their opinion about a post.
