If you are just starting out, then it can be a bit difficult to know what your audience actually wants and what kind of content you need to deliver so that it holds value for your target audience.

Generate Content Ideas

Generate Content Ideas

So here are the top 3 ways, which can give you an idea, what exactly does your audience want?

Check Click through rate of your site’s pages

Even though this is something that most of us already practice yet there is one thing that breaks the chain and that is “lack of action”.

Marketers do give emphasis on the most popular pages on their site but they refuse to leverage it to generate popular content ideas and thus increase readership.

If you have a newsletter, make sure that you checkout the CTR for each of your campaign. This is a strong indicator to what really interests your audience.

Ask Questions on Facebook!

Ask Facebook Questions

Ask Facebook Questions

This is a no-brainer. One of the easiest ways to acknowledge exactly what your followers want.

Just create a quick question related to your brand and add a few options. That’s it!

People will actually appreciate if you show your concern for their opinion. Make sure you allow more options to be added while creating the question.

Ask your Community!

If you have a brand, building a community around your brand is a compulsion. Be it via blogs or social media, if you have a community, it becomes extremely easy to know what is going on inside the mind of your general audience and you can leverage that knowledge to ensure that you deliver quality content.

Ask your Community!

Ask your Community!

Now to engage with your community, you can resort to any or preferably all of the steps listed:

Blog Comments

In the midst of the supporting comments that the readers leave, there are always a couple of one’s that reflect a doubt or a query. Well, this can be a strong indicator of what issues you’re readers are facing and thus I’m pretty sure that if one of your readers is facing it, he’s not the only one.

Blog Posts

This has been a pretty popular strategy nowadays. All you need to do is create a blog post that asks its readers to address their problems and queries pertaining to a topic. This is a powerful strategy that builds your brand’s authenticity and value among its followers while at the same time bringing you content ideas, which your readers really want!

Tweet your way to ideas

Well, we have already discussed how Facebook questions can be a real help. But the quiz should not be limited to just Facebook. Make sure you engage with your followers on all social media platforms where you exist and demand what their opinion on the same.

Twitter can be a real deal in this matter even if you don’t have a strong followership. You can check the trending topics in your niche, follow the leaders in your niche and checkout what their followers are discussing about.

If you do have a strong followership on twitter, there are a couple of things that you can do to check what’s hot and what’s not!

#1 Check your most favorite tweets

This task can be easily simplified using an online service called Favstar.

Here is what you need to do:

1. Login into Favstar.fm using your twitter ID
2. Authorize the application for your twitter account
3. Click on tweets and check out the tweets that have been recently been marked as favorite.

Since, it’s marked as a favorite, you now know what’s appealing to your audience.

#2 Check the tweets/blog posts that have been retweeted the most

You can easily do this by logging into your twitter account and check your tweets that have been recently retweeted.

It’s all a numbers game and the more the merrier.

Based on the twitter trends mark the top 5 topics that your followers have found of utmost interest and dig more into those topics to find problems that you can resolve for your readers.

I guess that’s all for now, here is a final piece of advice that you will make sure you get results.

“Stop Thinking, Take Action!”

  1. I’ve been carefully watching how my creations are used, Karan, and you offer good advice. My humor articles seems to do well in the short term, and technical solutions for WordPress issues are the most “evergreen.” People respond to articles about psychology and success, too.

One really good way to generate content ideas is to think about some event or incident that happened in your personal life recently. Then find a way to relate that to a learning topic within your niche. Sit down and tell your story and then talk about what you learned from your experience. The great thing is that you are talking about yourself and it’s a good way to be really personal with your blogging.

Hello Karan. Tweeting your way to ideas is truly a great idea. I have done it some times before, but I got to say that there are a few tricks involved. You have to do it when the majority of your followers are online, and some sort of incentive, like a free gift or a mention in a post is effective. If you make people part of what you’re doing, it serves as a great motivator to get involved.

At times you may totally run out of ideas on what to write on. As much as there are many places in which you can get ideas on what to write on, you must ensure that it is what people want to read or to hear about. I like your choice of using Facebook and comments to know what people want you to write about.
