3 Important Things To Understand Before Starting A Blog
The Internet has provided the tools for anyone to run a website and that has led to an almost infinite number of blogs with more being added each day. Many new bloggers enter this space with unrealistic expectations. Here are three things everyone hoping to start a blog should understand.
1. Be Realistic
If your starting a blog expecting it to be an easy way to make money you should probably think long and hard about what you’re doing. Both running and writing for a blog is a serious time investment and very few reach a level of success that qualifies as “income.” It isn’t impossible, but even if your blog did become successful enough to become a part time job it is going to be far from easy. Deciding to blog is a great way to express yourself and may even enrich your life; just don’t have unrealistic expectations about how successful it’ll be. Write because it’s something you love to do, anything other than that is probably going to disappoint you.
2. Don’t Make Promises To Your Audience You Can’t Keep
Many new bloggers make the mistake of promising things they can’t deliver on and that’s no way to keep readers interested. For example, if you work full time it’s probably an unrealistic goal to claim you’ll update every day. There are going to be days where your uninspired and promising updates on too frequent a schedule often leads to bloggers burning out and giving up. It’s better to provide occasional high quality updates than promise daily updates and not deliver. Since most blogs success center around their fan base, disappointing them is the worst thing you can do. If you have a more realistic schedule and something comes up and you’re unable to post, tell your fans about it. Making a short post explaining that your too busy to update is likely to be met with understanding rather than bitterness.
3. Write With Passion
Find something your truly passionate about and make that the main subject of your blog. Many new bloggers make the mistake of thinking they can write about anything and still provide interesting insight. The truth is blogging is a lot like conversation. You probably can talk about anything, but it’s far more enjoyable when it’s something you care about. Chances are your reader will be able to tell the difference between subjects you care about and subjects your writing up for the sake of hits. Poor blog posts stick out in the minds of readers more than good posts, so if you hope to build a fan base stick to what you know. This isn’t to say you should never expand your horizons but if that’s something you do then take the time to do the research. If you’re not comfortable speaking with authority on the subject, than you shouldn’t write a blog post about it. Fact checking is also important. No matter how well you think you know a subject, it’s always a good idea to do a little homework.

i am started a new blog before some days, and register in google ad sense.is it they approved at least 6 month after?.
Hi, Maria
You are absolutely right in all three points (but I think we can add some more important things). But personally I would put your third point (about passion) on the first place as it is extremely essential for being successful with a blog. If you like what you do, you will be able to make people interested in it as well.
Found your blog today and I think its awesome! Regarding this post I would like to add preparation. I know it seems obvious but I found to my cost that no preparation = trouble ahead. Writing with a passion means great dedication and I find that I need preparation to do so. This is my opinion. Btw keep up the good work:)

I think so
Dear Tan Dung,
Ad sense works just after the pasting in your site but earning from ad sense depends upon your sit. H0w famous is your site? and how much traffic is available on your site?

Three great tips … too many people want to make it big by blogging but don’t know what rules to adhere to.
The number 1 be realistic is probably the bigger one. You can make money, but it’s not fast, easy or simple. It usually requires a substantial commitment. For most people it is a lot of time and hard work.

thanks Maria. i think the most important thing is “passion” so you need to keep it hot all the time – if you have passion – people will have the passion from your blog as well!

I believe that some new bloggers indulged directly into money-making without working on own content. And when they don’t get a dime, they give up. It’s a misconception about blogging.

This seems really a great tips which each blogger should make sure to follow. I myself had experienced the same, I have a blog which I use to update with useful post but since last some days I am unable to post and now I can see it’s credit dropping.
Always choose a niche where your interest lies only then you can work on it with full passion unless it won’t take much time to end your blog.

Those planning to start a blog should read this article, the tips shared by Maria will prove very helpful. Newbies in whichever profession, should look up for more information and try to be more well versed and experience will take care of itself. Blogging as fun as it sounds is equally very challenging and every blogger who’ve set up a blog should not give up after some months.
I wish I had read this post three years ago when I began with my blogging journey. My first few blogs went downhill because its very hard to dedicate time and energy to write articles, spend time on marketing and promotion and maintain different blogs at same time.

I am not sure I agree with you completely. For one, I do not think passion is a must for a blog. I think it really depends on the purpose of the blog and its intended audience.
I have more than a handful of blogs. In many of those I write passionately. I write because I feel I have something interesting to share … not just something useful but something inspirational.
I have other blogs for which I have very little passion. But some of these make amazing amount of money. My best earner is a blog I have absolutely no passion for. And the blog that I am most passionate makes absolutely no money!
Bottomline – passion is not as important as people think it is and it is definitely not a precondition for success.

This blog rocks! I have always like blogging, it lets me express my thoughts and it becomes a theraphy to me too. My contents are always unique. Although i search for ideas to other blogs but I made sure that my content with be totally different, related though but it’s always original.
Making money online is very challenging it takes a lot of planning and dedication. Your idea should be enticing and interesting to the public, It’s not enough that you just blog but you have to think of the problem of the people to create the needs and that’s where you start with your content.
I will include a more thing which always a blog need. that is typography. The way you arrange the content to draw the visitor and keep them on site. We are doing blog posting on countier.com that can teach you how to use typography.
Blogs are very popular source of income either you take it as a full day job or part time but I agree with you Maria that you need to understand the difficulties comes in the way of blogger before putting your first leg in this job. Its going to be tough enough to write a blog but its not impossible, if you have passion about blogging then nothing can betray you.
Yes i completely agree with you Maria that you should not make false promises that you can’t fulfill, and also write on the topic that you know or if you don’t have knowledge then do some work before writing on it, otherwise all these things can destroy your image in between the readers or can leave the bad impression in front of viewers.
Well written post. When you start up a blog you need to understand these things or else your blog will never be of any benefit to you or your readers.
