10 SEO Techniques To Avoid
SEO is a longterm and strategic process that needs patience and a lot of groundwork to be done. However, some people always lean towards possible shortcuts but truth be-told such methods would never yield any long term results and will lead to irreparable damage like getting your website de-indexed from Google forever.
Following are some of such methods we recommend you should avoid.
10. Hidden Text: This Black Hat technique involves making massive amounts of invisible keywords. It used to work years ago, but now search engines can catch it easily and will ban people for doing it.
9.Irrelevant Keyword Tags: It may seem like a good idea to fill your website with popular keywords to attract as much traffic as possible, but it will actually make it harder for customers who want to buy to even find you; especially after Google penalizes your site for it.
8.Automated Content: Automated content programs may seem like the cheapest and most specialized option, but many search engines have cracked down on it. Google in particular can now catch it very easily, and won’t hesitate to downgrade your page if they see it.
7.Duplicated Content: Some SEO amateurs think that if they make five pages with the same content, they’ll get 5x the traffic. Nope. All this will accomplish is confusing your visitors and (once again) inviting Google to penalize you the first time they catch it.
6.Cloaked Pages: This technique involves making separate pages for the search engine bots and actual visitors. This may work for a little bit, but if the search engine catches you, or a user reports you—your page won’t be penalized, it will be permanently banned.
5.Gateway Pages: A gateway page is a page that ranks for one term, but takes anyone who visits it to a different page entirely. Search engines hate this, and penalties may range from penalization to permanent bans.
4.Purchased Links: Link sharing is still a popular and effective way to do SEO but buying links in bulk is no longer effective. Google and other search engines now watch for these and have whole teams dedicated to watching for this suspicious behavior.
3.Emphasizing Meta tags: This was once the way to go, but it stopped working years ago. The practice was too easy to take advantage of, so Google weakened tags importance in their algorithm.
2.Flash and Javascript: You might think that anything that makes your site look good would be good for SEO, but most search engines don’t index either of these formats well.
1.Viruses & Trojans: Using viruses and Trojans on you site not only exposes you to the risk of getting your site banned, it could also land you in jail.
So what do you guys think? What is your opinion on such black hat seo practices ? Please let us know your valuable input on this in the comment section.

Nice list. Anyway, I am not sure about buying links being not effective. I guess Google will discover them if you buy links in a massive way, but I don’t see how they will know if links are created in a progressive, natural-like manner.
Yea some links are very clearly purchased, but others…
If you donate to a charity and they link to you because of it does that count as a paid link? I think the line is easily blurred.

Clearly most of this methods are oldschool black hat which I think nobody use nowadays, for sure this approach of SEO can be dreadful.
If these are old school, is there any chance that we also now have new school black hat techniques? Just curious.

For sure nobody must try the above techniques which are very basic and very old. Personally I think that evergreen SEO techniques are the best and nothing beyond quality link building on pure on-page optimization works better.
I think that, just like everything else in life, the shortcuts and the slacking will not get you far. There is nothing like a real and hard SEO work to make you suceed.
I agree– it’s about hard work, patience and sticking with it for the long haul. You’ll see the benefits of SEO if you’re willing to put in the time and energy to make it work.
Wow, I’m new to internet marketing, but this is a really good start for someone like me. That way I’ll know which methods to stay away from. Cloaked pages is kind of interesting topic something I would like to learn more about just for the knowledge

By irrelevant keyword tags, does this also include excessive keyword tags? Is it just as bad to tag a post with all sorts of incoming search phrases that people are using or tagging posts with a bunch of “relevant” phrases?

If deindexed you should read the Google webmaster guide for what you’ve done wrong, fix the issue, and appeal.
Actually you can not define a particular SEO technique to be valid because google is too frequent at updating its algorithms!
Shiva, are you sure about flash (point 2)? I know google is able to index flash stuff from a couple of year…
